Director of Human Resources & Accounting

Location: Dallas, TX (Fully On-Site, Monday-Friday)
Firm Type: Established Law Firm (Approximately 38 Attorneys & Staff)
Reports To: Firm Administrator
Compensation: $90,000-$95,000, plus bonus, 401(k) match, paid parking, complimentary on-site fitness center, private office, and employer contribution toward medical premiums


About the Opportunity

Our client, a highly respected Dallas law firm, is seeking a Director of Human Resources & Accounting to oversee the firm's HR, accounting, benefits administration, and day-to-day administrative operations.

This is a highly visible leadership position that partners closely with the Firm Administrator and plays a critical role in supporting the firm's attorneys and staff. The ideal candidate is equally comfortable leading Human Resources initiatives while overseeing the firm's accounting functions, ensuring operational excellence across both departments.

What You'll Do

Human Resources Leadership

  • Lead all day-to-day Human Resources operations, including onboarding, offboarding, personnel records, compliance, and employee relations
  • Manage recruiting, hiring, and new employee onboarding
  • Serve as the primary HR resource for attorneys and staff
  • Process semi-monthly payroll through the firm's payroll provider
  • Coordinate employee performance reviews, staff development, and training initiatives
  • Manage PTO requests, employee policies, and HR compliance
  • Maintain confidential personnel records and employment documentation

Benefits Administration

  • Administer employee medical, dental, vision, and ancillary benefit programs through the firm's PEO
  • Coordinate annual benefits renewals and evaluate plan options
  • Administer the firm's 401(k) plan, including payroll deductions, employer match calculations, and annual compliance reporting
  • Manage professional liability, cyber liability, long-term disability, and commercial insurance programs
  • Serve as the primary liaison with insurance carriers and benefit providers

Accounting & Finance

  • Oversee the firm's day-to-day accounting operations
  • Manage month-end close and general ledger reconciliations
  • Prepare financial information for the firm's CPA
  • Oversee accounts payable, accounts receivable, payroll journal entries, and banking activity
  • Perform trust/IOLTA reconciliations
  • Prepare weekly cash flow reports
  • Coordinate monthly partner distributions
  • Process bank transfers and wire transactions
  • Ensure accurate financial reporting and compliance with firm accounting procedures

Firm Operations

  • Partner closely with the Firm Administrator on operational initiatives
  • Manage vendor relationships and outside service providers
  • Assist with firm budgeting and operational planning
  • Provide leadership on administrative projects and process improvements
  • Serve as a trusted resource for attorneys and staff on day-to-day operational matters

What We're Looking For

Required Qualifications

  • Previous experience working in a law firm or legal services environment
  • Proven Human Resources leadership experience
  • Strong accounting background, including general ledger reconciliations, bookkeeping, and financial reporting
  • Experience processing payroll and administering employee benefits
  • Strong understanding of trust/IOLTA accounting or the ability to manage these functions confidently
  • Exceptional organizational and time management skills
  • High level of discretion, professionalism, and integrity
  • Ability to effectively manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced legal environment
  • Available to work on-site Monday-Friday

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience administering 401(k) plans and employee benefits
  • Experience with legal accounting or practice management software
  • Knowledge of QuickBooks or similar accounting systems
  • Advanced Microsoft Excel skills
  • SHRM-CP, SHRM-SCP, PHR, SPHR, or related HR certification
  • Bachelor's degree in Human Resources, Accounting, Business Administration, or a related field
